"Into the Shade" can best be categorized as Urban Fantasy and I found myself enjoying the story barring a few technical issues in the writing. The story presents us with an interesting character in Jennifer, who finds herself at an obnoxious New Year's party only to be thrown head-first into a different but familiar world. In the beginning she comes across as weak and lacking in self esteem - i won't spoil the adventure she finds herself in, but by the end we see our protagonist grow into a real hero. I liked the minor characters too and especially a character who surprised me by not being a cliched baddie. I thought this was a high point in the story and reminded me of Jim Henson's movie The Labyrinth where there are friendly beasties. As I said there are a few technical quibbles with the writing but nothing that really affected my enjoyment of the story. If anything I wish the author stretched out a few specific scenes that at times felt rushed.
I would be interested in reading the followup that the ending suggests.

Into the Shade edition by Sharon Poffinberger Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Well written and good story line. My only complaint is I wanted more! Please consider making it into a series!
Starts with action and the pace keeps up thoroughout the story. No dull moments! Characters are great! Recommend this to anyone who would like an enjoyable read!
very interesting short story about what happens when the year turns and the veil between the mortal world and what lies beyond grows thin...The main character has to use powers she never knew she had to escape! This story is well worth reading and I wouldn't mind a sequel in order to find out what happens to her next.
Into the Shade by Sharon Poffinberger is a short fantasy story about a quiet girl named Jennifer who gets dragged to a New Year's eve party by her Rowdy friend Stacy. While Jennifer hides from the party in the bathroom, the stroke of midnight sounds changing Jennifer's life forever. Thrust into a strange existence, part earth, part somewhere else, Jennifer meets Mike and together they must figure out how to get back home.
This story was a fun read and short if you are looking for something to read on vacation or don't have time for a full length novel. It is well written and only has a few typos that I've informed the author about (we are in the same writing group)so I'm sure a new version will be uploaded very soon with the mistakes fixed.
If you like books about the Fey, then you should check this story out. It blends modern-day with fairy mythology creating a delightful tale. The story is a complete story, but leaves room for more tales in this world and I sure hope Sharon Poffinberger does continue the saga.
