Imagine giving up everything you own and walking across the country… for 28 years?
Meet Peace Pilgrim (1908-1981), who traveled the U.S. on foot seven times with only the clothes on her back and no money to spread her message of peace. She lived off the land and the kindness of those she met, sleeping outdoors, on cement floors, in parked cars and, once, on the front seat of a fire engine in Tombstone, Arizona. Whenever she ran into trouble – physical or verbal – her sole response was love. This joyful New Jersey native touched tens of thousands of lives, one step at a time. Never heard of her? Read the book and you’ll never forget her!
This biographical novel includes photos, glossary & reader's guide, and fits historical fiction, anti-bullying & women's history themes. Aimed at middle grades and up, it's inspiring for all ages.

I had, as a little school kid in India, got introduced to Peace Pilgrim through a pamphlet that was distributed post our morning prayers. Peace was a foreigner to an Indian like me but there was something about that pamphlet and her portrait on the highway that made an impact. It took me 15 long years to finally get to know the details of this remarkable woman. In an age where we are high on technology and low on happiness, Peace's message is more relevant than ever before. Selfless, loving and compassionate - this was the Peace that I had come to know. Her message took me back in time and has made me realise that inner peace is the only way for blissful living..that is a realisation that transcends yesterday, today and the day after. Thank you Merry for this wonderful read.Product details

Peace Pilgrim walking her talk against hate edition by Merry Brennan Children eBooks Reviews
A very interesting women and the story is told in an easy to read way. Her love has made a difference to many.
Slow, but steady reading!!!
This is a wonderful little book written for youth but has significant lessons for adults as well. Check out the Peace Pilgrim website for free further information and videos if you're interested in this extraordinary woman's life and teachings.
This book is well written with a helpful glossary and discussion questions for younger readers. However, its appeal is not limited to any single age group.
I am sending a copy of this book to my granddaughter because it is important for her to read about the influence that one simple life can have. Photographs personalize Peace's story and remind me of what I used to consider the "olden days"of my mother's life.
I rated this book Five Stars because I feel the author has taken the facts we know about Peace Pilgrim's life and used them to bring Peace Pilgrim to life in a beautiful way. Peace Pilgrim began her life as an average person but she followed the call of the Divine to become a saint. Living in perfect harmony with the Divine Will, she was fearless in her profound concern for others. I highly recommend this book.
I finished Peace Pilgrim last night and absolutely loved it. It is a very easy read, and you really don't want to put it down until you hear all of her story. Clearly, Peace was way ahead of her time and I am so glad that Merry Brennan wrote this fascinating tale of her journeys across America. What an amazing, insightful and grounded woman Peace was, with a firm grasp of her convictions and a vision for getting others to think about the small things each of us can do to make a difference in the world. I love people like Peace who make you think about your own opinions on subjects and have the ability to help you see things from a different point of view. Oprah calls them 'Ah-ha moments.' This book will be an inspiration to anyone who reads Merry's eloquent account of this truly extraordinary woman. I can't say that I would have had her courage or walked with her, but I am sure I would enjoyed listening to Peace and being touched by her passion. At least have a glimpse into this quiet yet powerful woman from Merry's book.
I found "Peace Pilgrim" to be a good read. I admire her for what she did. She walked for peace, more than 25,000 miles. She did indeed walk and talk peace. Her message "This is the way of peace--Overcome evil with good, and falsehood with truth, and hatred with love".
She also wrote "The medicine this sick world needs so badly is love."
